I’ve “fixed” many “broken” companies over a 30 year consulting career.

The “fixes” have varied in size and scope but the project always starts in the same place – the numbers!

The “numbers” tell me what is “out of the norm” – what needs attention – what needs immediate triage and then how to prioritize the necessary changes.

AND IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK THERE WHERE A LOT OF NUMBERS –

  • A “million-kid march” (March for our Lives) against gun violence
  • A $1.3 Trillion Discretionary Budget
    • That we cannot afford
  • 116 opioid over-dose deaths every single day now have the President’s attention
    • 64,000 in 2017 = more than the combat deaths in an entire decade of the Viet Nam War
  • Every day 40 people die as result of gun fire
    • By comparison the vilified Iraq War claimed 2.3 lives a day!
  • And 46 children are injured by guns
  • Plus — 40 people, on average, die of preventable medical error
    • That will be one of the issues we’ll discuss next Sunday, April 1, with Dr. Robert Pearl – former CEO of Kaiser Permanente – and author of Mistreated. Be sure to tune in!

But today it’s back to the numbers
